Tips For Employers To Earn Respect From Employees

Respect is a valuable asset for employers to show and earn in the workplace. Earning employee respect isn’t always easy, but when employers find ways to build respect at work, positive benefits occur. How do you build employee respect at work?

Here are five tips for employers/managers to earn the respect of employees:

  • Be authentic: Be an authentic image of your organisation’s values and principles while being transparent and just. That will result in building trust with your employees, and that’s something that’s very important in the workplace. Trust also makes your employees feel a bit more comfortable, and in consequence respect will be shown by both parties.
  • Promote ‘ownership’: Make your employers feel like ‘owners’, instead of ‘renters’, in the sense that they know their voice matters, and that people in positions of power listen to learn and engage with their employees.
  • Develop potential: Help individuals succeed, by making them feel like they are reaching their full potential and achieving goals. If they know their making progress and being appreciated for it, they will naturally show respect.
  • Create an energised atmosphere: Create a positive ambient where your employees’ energy is directed towards winning, and persevering, instead being bored out to death. This is an essential component in order to gain respect, as creating a desirable atmosphere, makes your employees feel grateful, and therefore showing respect will be the outcome.
  • Sacrifice when necessary: Being willing to sacrifice certain things for your employees, contributes to the company’s success. Very simply because it makes your employees more successful. The more time you invest in the developing the potential of your employees, the better they work, resulting in triumph.

So to sum it up respect goes both ways. Not only do employees need to show respect by following guidelines, co-operating, and being friendly and respectful to others, but also employers need to give back and demonstrate that their work is being valued.
