The Opportunity

Our client is a well-established and highly respected accountancy practice based in Central London, with an established accounting offering and an exciting new strategic project to develop and expand its tax advisory function.

We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Senior Tax Manager / Tax Advisory Lead who wants more than a traditional technical tax role.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in building and shaping the firm’s tax advisory offering, working closely with the Partners and senior leadership team and advising an increasingly international client base.

The successful candidate will have strong UK corporate tax and international tax experience, excellent client-facing skills and the commercial confidence to identify opportunities, develop relationships and help grow the practice.

A Big 4, Top 10 or respected specialist tax/accountancy practice background would be highly advantageous.

You will work closely with Partners and senior leadership to develop the firm’s tax advisory proposition, while continuing to provide high-quality technical and commercially focused advice to clients.

Your responsibilities will include:

Corporate & International Tax Advisory

  • Advise corporate and international clients on UK corporate tax matters.
  • Provide commercially focused tax planning and advisory solutions.
  • Advise on corporate structures, reorganisations and transactions.
  • Support multinational and internationally active businesses with UK and cross-border tax matters.
  • Work with overseas advisers and stakeholders where required.
  • Provide advice on UK tax implications of international operations and structures.
  • Develop particular expertise in UK–Italy cross-border matters where relevant.

Client Advisory & Relationship Management

  • Act as a trusted adviser to senior client stakeholders.
  • Build and develop long-term client relationships.
  • Understand clients’ wider commercial objectives and identify opportunities to add value.
  • Communicate complex tax matters clearly and practically to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Attend client meetings and presentations as required.

Tax Compliance & Risk

  • Oversee and review UK Corporation Tax compliance and related tax reporting.
  • Support clients with HMRC enquiries, investigations and disclosures.
  • Ensure appropriate technical standards, risk management and compliance procedures are maintained.
  • Keep up to date with UK tax legislation and emerging international tax developments.

Practice Development

  • Work closely with Partners to develop and grow the firm’s tax advisory offering.
  • Identify opportunities within the existing client base and develop new business opportunities.
  • Contribute to proposals, pitches and client presentations.
  • Help establish processes, services and best practices as the tax function develops.
  • Mentor and supervise junior members of the team as the function grows.

About You

We are looking for an experienced tax professional who combines strong technical knowledge with commercial and client-facing ability.

You are likely to have:

  • Approximately 7–12+ years’ experience in UK tax.
  • Strong experience in UK Corporate Tax.
  • Good exposure to international and cross-border tax matters.
  • Experience advising multinational groups, international businesses or complex corporate structures.
  • Strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience managing or mentoring more junior tax professionals.
  • The confidence to work directly with Partners, business owners and senior client stakeholders.
  • A commercially minded approach and an interest in business development.
  • Experience gained within a Big 4, Top 10, mid-tier or respected specialist tax/accountancy practice.

Qualifications

CTA, ACA or ACCA qualification is desirable.

What Makes This Role Different?

This is not simply an opportunity to join an established tax compliance team.

The tax advisory offering is a new strategic growth area for the practice, giving the successful candidate the opportunity to influence its development from an early stage.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Help shape the firm’s tax advisory proposition.
  • Work closely with Partners and senior leadership.
  • Develop and deepen senior client relationships.
  • Work on sophisticated UK and international tax matters.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities.
  • Build your profile within a growing practice.
  • Take on increasing leadership responsibility as the tax function develops.
  • Working with autonomy, visibility and influence.
