Brain Tricks To Be Motivated During Your Job Search – Part 1

Monday Motivation #02

Motivation isn’t just a psychological state, but it’s also biochemical. So in other words, to be motivated it’s important to not only be mentally healthy, but also physically. Here are some tricks to sharpen your motivation, and help you in your daily life when hunting for jobs, and dealing with personal problems.

  • Believe in Yourself – Dopamine is a brain chemical that is strongly associated with motivation and reward. Studies show that self-belief causes a surge of dopamine. So thinking in a positive way, can be a really powerful motivator. Imagine yourself as somebody who takes on new challenges and can succeed. Think of yourself as a determined person, by forming mental movies of yourself feeling motivated and accomplishing your goals. It is also very important you surround with people who believe in you as well. Research shows that being told that you will succeed well by others, releases dopamine as well.
  • Recall Pleasant Past Experiences – If you are demotivated because of a specific task such as job hunting, remembering a time when you enjoyed doing that activity can spark your motivational mode. A study showed that recalling and describing a positive memory of a task increases motivation in that area. Remembering a pleasant experience of an activity will really boost your motivation. Try doing this from today and see the difference.
  • Start Smart – Lets say you don’t feel very motivated to begin your job hunt, or any other task you have scheduled. It does not mean your efforts will result in failure. The way the brain works, is that it will naturally start to produce dopamine as you begin to get things done. If you are demotivated, pick a tiny, easy part of the task to do to begin with. Dopamine is produced every time you achieve something, no matter how small it is. The brain needs, and enjoys frequent positive feedback to let it know things are progressing towards a final goal. The dopamine produced from that first achievement will leave you feeling motivated to doing a lot more.

So in conclusion, using these simple tricks will keep you motivated to find your dream job you’ve been waiting for. Also something to keep in mind, is that getting help to get a task done, or with something your struggling with, is always a good idea because when you can’t motivate yourself to do something, someone else will.
