5 Ways you can motivate yourself to work harder

Want to find your dream job? Or are you tired with the job you have now? If you’re looking for a solution the truth is there is no secret to success. It simply comes down to putting in those hours of work with determination. But how can you motivate yourself to work hard? Here are some suggestions:

Set clear goals

The trick to keeping your motivation up through your low points and exhausting times, is being very, very clear about why you’re doing what you’re doing. Don’t think about work as hard work, but think about it as the path to making yourself into who you want to be. And this is why you need to set goals. Work becomes easier when you clearly know the purpose of what you’re doing. Keep your focus on that end vision. Ask yourself: ‘If you were the person that you want to be, then what would that person do?’

Take care of your body

Sometimes the problem isn’t mental it’s physical. If you don’t have the physical energy to complete your work, keeping your motivation up is going to be difficult. Maybe you always feel tired, don’t get enough sleep, feel unpleasant or even ill. If that’s the case, It’s vital to keep yourself healthy by seeing a nutritionist to improve your health. Try your best to get seven to nine hours of sleep a night. Never ignore symptoms of discomfort, because it will be very hard to stay motivated if you’re not feeling your best.

Create habits

Doing something repetitively by force of will is extremely difficult. Doing it as a habit is much easier. Start with small habits that will help you be more productive, and make you feel good. Like for exmaple work in short bursts of intense focus. The secret is having a schedule that you can follow.

Get comfortable being uncomfortable

Those who struggle with motivation need to keep in mind that the low points will come, but embracing them is the best thing you can do. Learn from those moments, and keep moving forward. There’s no way to expand your abilities without going outside your comfort zone. So don’t let those low points effect your motivation. In fact, struggling a little is a good sign. It means you’re a step closer to where you want to be.

Reward (or punish) yourself

Having positive and negative incentives can be effective. For example if you’re going to do some job hunting, set a deadline and reward. Say if you love chocolate for example, you could eat some as soon as you finish your job hunting. Or if you don’t meet the deadline you could have a negative incentive. This appears to be effective for many people.
